Ho Ryon Lee 이호련is a Korean Postwar & Contemporary painter who was born in 1978. Ho Ryon Lee creates fetishized images of women’s bodies, revealed through lifted or taken down skirts.

He reflects different positions between men who are tempted and women who tempt as a symbolical expression of eroticism. The women in the painting, who are the object of desire, are presented as exhibitionists who explicitly expose their femininity regardless of voyeurs. The overlapping images create a dynamic impression, as if they were moving.

Humans are affected by sensory stimuli coming from outside. Among them, the visual stimulus is the first to be known, and the viewer’s voyeuristic gaze and the woman’s action of revealing her body in the screen make the viewer face the original self at the point where the viewer’s gaze impulses and approach the primordial image. The artist’s intention is to attract the eyes outside the screen and stimulate desire beyond the five senses.

‘ The difference between photography and painting is inevitably revealed by the representation of light through the pigments and brushstrokes, which clearly positions my work as a painted image. It is therefore difficult to consider the model in my painting as an index of the real object.
