I’m a realist artist residing in the Vallejo, California. While oil is my favorite medium, I also work in graphite, charcoal, acrylic, and gouache. My artwork reflects on themes of values and exquisite beauty, real or imaginary.
Through the lens of classical art admiration, and behind the aesthetic surface, many of my work critique on how we derive values and meanings from myth, folklore, legend, and the generality of storytelling. Displaying complex, yet subtle emotions, the moving countenance of my character studies are motivated by human concepts that connect us to history, social structure, emotions, moral compass, and the understanding of the self.
The paintings or drawings of enigmatic faces, with assuring and confident gazes, are just part of the artistic expression meant to find its own emotional connection with the viewers for completion. With deep respect for the discipline of drawing and the craft of traditional techniques, I strive not for photorealism, but a wholehearted realistic endeavor towards creativity and ingenuity in the realism.
