Paintings by Wang Hongzheng ( 王宏峥 )

Wang Hongzheng ( 王宏峥 ) was born in Zhangjiakou (China), Hebei Province in 1971, and now lives in Beijing. He graduated from the Oil Painting Department of Tianjin Normal University, and then worked in the Oil Painting Creation Research Office of the China National Academy of Arts for further study.

He is currently the vice president of the Oil Painting Institute of the China Academy of Famous Artists, and is employed as a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts of Linyi University (China). He is also a member of Beijing Oil Painting Society, director of Overseas Chinese Artists Association, member of American Portrait Artists Association, and member of American Watercolor Artists Association.

At the first glance of Mr. Wang’s works, symbolism is undoubtedly one of the first words that pop into mind. We can find a kind of surrealism in his paintings, and even think of René Magritte and Flowing elements in the works of Salvador Dali. Maybe the purpose is not the same, but the sense of absurdity can be compared. The sense of absurdity here doesn’t make us wonder or laugh, or question what we’re gazing at.

Mr. Wang’s paintings are dreams. For some reason, we feel that they are not real but full of possibility. They have such a subtle feeling that attracts us to solve the puzzle. Perhaps we feel that these scenes can easily appear in our dreams, and we have a strange intimacy with the women in the paintings, the floating fish, and the children who seem to be covered in tulle between different dimensions. These three main symbols appearing in the paintings have very deep and moving meanings.
