Surrealism | Contemporary art
Surrealism was an artistic and literary movement that emerged in the aftermath of World War I, particularly in France, but also in other parts of Europe and the Americas. It was characterized by a rejection of traditional norms and conventions, and a focus on the power of the imagination and the subconscious mind. Surrealist artists often incorporated dream-like or fantastical elements into their works, blurring the line between reality and fantasy. They were also interested in exploring the relationship between art and politics, and many of them were associated with left-wing politics and anti-fascist movements. Some famous Surrealist artists include Salvador Dali, René Magritte, and Max Ernst.
