Based in Montpellier, French artist Patrice Murciano has achieved international success, and his self named ‘NEW POP” style, is now immediately recognisable.
From the face of this little girl my age, when I was only 4 years old, whose immense green eyes I made up in the schoolyard, with those greasy sticks that we use for carnival, to the first female nudes sketched on the back of rolls of wallpaper from the construction site of our house, in Pignan in Hérault – drawings that I sketched with my mother’s makeup, giving these creations a texture, a smell, so feminine .
I was born with this desire to paint, this need to draw, to immortalize what presented itself to my eyes or to my mind. I don’t think that one “becomes” a painter, a musician, that one embraces any form of art, I believe that one is born an artist. – Patrice Murciano
